In Ether: part one of many

I inhaled you, and I was fumbling high,

alive in the ether;

you helped me with the buttons of my black blouse.

Alive in the ether,

our voyeur–the new January sun–

he beat cold and dusty through the windowpane.

Breath on my neck, you scorched my skin; and goddamn,

alive in the ether

we both burst into flames.

Three days a fire did rage against the rules,

burning the bed, and bridges, and promises.

I am never more alive than when I am

alive in the ether.
